Preschool Aquatics

Preschool Aquatics The YMCA Aquatic Staff asks that swimmers 3 years and older, who have had lessons elsewhere or are new to our program, be tested to determine their level. Testing is done on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., EXCEPT HOLIDAYS OR INTERIM WEEKENDS. Children under 3 and registered for a parent/child are not required to be tested.

Parent/Child & Preschool Programs The National YMCA Preschool Aquatic Program is for children 5 and under. The aquatics program uses the safest and latest methods of aquatic instruction and water safety for young children and their parents. Our program follows the YMCA infant water enrichment guidelines. Developers of this program development specialists. There are two sections, Parent/Child, children under 3 years with their parents in the water and Preschool, children 3-5 years without their parents in the water.

Parent & Child (6 -36 months) Parenting and water adjustment are the two goals for children under 3. Requiring participation of a parent or another trusted adult, this program increases the bond of trust between parent and child, offers them fun activities to enjoy together and teaches parents how to keep children safe around water. Most importantly, the program helps parents form reasonable and healthy expectations of their child’s development and progress. Each class focuses on goals such as communication, socialization, body awareness, sharing, creativity, self confidence and independence. (Parent participation is required, but child must have current membership.)

2601- Parent/Child (under 3 with parent participation in water) Water adjustment, communication, socialization, body awareness, self-confidence, songs and games.
