YMCA of McHenry County History:

Chartered: September 16, 1964, under the name of Lake Region YMCA (Name changed to YMCA of McHenry County on March 13, 1995)

Original Location/Services: Downtown Crystal Lake store front office offering swimming lessons at the Manor Motel pool, youth basketball at area schools, and Indian Guides program at homes of the participants.

Current Facility: Original building opened April 1973 and includes pool, offices, weight room, small exercise room two outdoor-lighted tennis courts, two basketball courts. Addition to the building opened September 1981, and included racquetball courts and multi-purpose room. In 1999 Child Care Services Branch opened including: CCRR, DC, School Age Child Care & Preschool Programming. In 2000 we finished all of the facility, adding new gym, weight room/cardiovascular room. In 2002 the Child Care Services Branch opened. 2005 the YMCA expanded with the addition of Camp Algonquin and Triple R Day Camp.

Executive Directors:

Tennis Courts: Located outdoors - exit through rear doors of multi-purpose room.
Racquetball Courts: Available by reservation.
Pool: 25 yard 6 lane pool.
Weight Room: Includes over 1500 lbs. free weights and Pyramid strength training equipment.
Cardiovascular Room: Rowers, Treadmills, Stairmasters, Stationary Bikes, etc. Pool: Six lanes, 120,000 gallons, 10 feet in the deep end and 3 feet in the shallow.
Multi-purpose Room: Used for specialty classes, and a variety of special events.
Gymnasium: Two side courts, one main high school court with two volleyball courts.
Sage Meeting Room: Meeting room used for Community, Staff and Board Meetings
Child Care Services Branch: Branch that serves all childcare needs of the county.
